The Mountain Decides: Watch Romain Dumas, Travis Pastrana, Rhys Millen in beautiful, thrilling Pikes Peak 2018 documentary

An electric dream at infamous hillclimb event captured in stunning film

JEREMY Hart first went to Pikes Peak, Colorado, in 1988. The former WRC and Paris-Dakar TV presenter (and sometime Sunday Times contributor) was accompanying rally legend Ari Vatanen, who took him to the summit of the world-famous hillclimb course in his Peugeot 405 Turbo 16.

The car produced 600hp, weighed 900kg and took Vatanen to victory in the event that year, captured in the film Climb Dance (below).

It was an experience that has stuck with Hart ever since.

The chance to return 30 years later to make his own film about the event, with three potential records up for grabs this year, was too good to miss.

The resulting documentary (main video) follows Travis Pastrana (Porsche),  Romain Dumas (VW) and Rhys Millen (Bentley) — plus US veteran Paul Dallenbach — as they attempt to conquer the infamous event.

Hart and his team tell the story of the drivers’ record runs but also chart the hillclimb’s fascinating history and extreme dangers.
