Watch the first trailer for Jeremy Clarkson's Who Wants to be a Millionaire

"Same seat, different driver"

ITV has released the first trailer for the new series of Who Wants to be a Millionaire, featuring new host Jeremy Clarkson.

Performing drifts behind the wheel of an Aston Martin DB11, the presenter and Sunday Times Driving writer says, “There really is nothing quite like it. It’s exciting. Invigorating. With every second you get more and more engrossed. One wrong move and it’s all over. But with one final daredevil lunge, it could change your life.”

He’s not referring to the car, of course, rather the experience of answering questions on “Millionaire”.

In a gag that falls somewhat flat, he adds: “I don’t like to make an entrance.” Where are the Top Gear and Grand Tour script editors when you need them?

Last month Clarkson said he was thrilled to be involved with the rebirth of the show, which ran from 1998 to 2014. Chris Tarrant, its previous presenter, was taken ill in the same year.

The show is being relaunched to mark its 20th anniversary, with seven one-hour episodes planned. ITV says the revival will include “a number of new twists and turns”.

The old Who Wants to be a Millionaire offered members of the public the chance to win £1,000,000 by answering a series of increasingly-tricky questions with multiple choice answers. The prize fund increased with each correct answer, and a wrong answer eliminated the contestant with the prize fund dropping to the last guaranteed sum. Contestants received three “lifelines”, allowing them to “ask the audience”, “phone a friend” or get a “50:50” chance by removing two wrong answers from the set of four options.

The new series is due to start on ITV in May.
