Video: Hennessey creates the fastest Jaguar F-type R yet

Now you see it. Now you don't

IT’S HARD not to like the Jaguar F-type. Just ask Jeremy Clarkson, who describes the F-type V8 S as “like meeting a new, very pretty girlfriend and then discovering over time that she is also extremely bright and can cook and change the hydraulic pump on a 1975 Citroën SM”.

Yet Hennessey, the maker of the Venom F5, one of the world’s fastest cars, has decided that the Jaguar could be better (read: faster) still.  So the American car maker and tuning outfit has launched a range of upgrades for the F-type R flagship that are said to increase power to 623bhp.

The package from the company, whose slogan is “Making fast cars faster since 1991”, is called the Hennessey HPE600 upgrade. As well as raising the power of the supercharged V8 engine by 80bhp, it boosts the torque from 501 to 568 Ib ft.

The result is that Hennessey’s version of the R will accelerate from 0 to 62mph in 3.5 seconds, which is a significant improvement over the “standard” model’s time of 4.2 seconds.

To give some meaning to those numbers, here’s a video of the car on a drag strip.

At the time of going to press, no price had been announced for the conversion kit, and Hennessey was unable to confirm whether it could supply it to UK customers and if the three-year warranty (up to 36,000 miles) would apply here. The standard Jaguar F-type R costs £85,000.
