THE PURE-ELECTRIC Tesla Model X is the American car maker’s first SUV, and as SUVs are the car du jour (in 2015 they became Europe’s best-selling type of car for the first time, outselling even superminis), it’s a big deal for the future success of the company.

Driving reviewed the car in Europe last summer but now right-hand drive models are appearing in the UK, so we got hold of one for a day to assess not its speed, or handling or ride quality but one of the key functions of an SUV: how suitable it is for families.
