Police officer praised for rescuing toddler on busy US highway

Cop's quick thinking most likely saved the child's life

A POLICE officer in Illinois has been commended for potentially saving the life of a toddler he found on a busy highway.

Caught on dash cam footage, the incident shows the moment a local law enforcer came across the child running down the Route 59 highway — one of the busiest roads in the entire United States of America.

According to local reports, the toddler had managed to leave his nearby home, before making his way onto the major border-to-border freeway. No injuries were reported in the incident either, which is being put down to the on-patrol cop’s decision to place himself and his vehicle between the child and any oncoming traffic.

Understandably, the cop was praised for his actions, with the city of Naperville’s police department commending him with its Life Saving Award.

Amazingly, the Illinois toddler isn’t the only child who’s made headlines in 2018 after being found on a major road. Earlier this year, a baby miraculously managed to emerge unscathed after crawling across a dual carriageway in Vietnam.
