Watch a 150mph Honda lawnmower take on the Goodwood hillclimb

Lord March needs his lawns mowed in a hurry

THE GOODWOOD Festival of Speed has seen many a bonkers machine attempt the hill climb course, but the 190bhp Honda Mean Mower Mk.2 lawnmower may be the craziest.

The second iteration of Honda’s racing mower project, the barmy piece of garden maintenance equipment is far removed from the ride-on lawn tractor from which it’s derived.

Replacing the original engine is the same 190bhp unit from the Honda CBR1000RR superbike — which is enough to give the new Mean Mower a power-to-weight ratio of 1,000bhp per tonne.

Honda claims those statistics should be enough for Mean Mower Mk. 2 to reach speeds in excess of 150mph. The current lawnmower land speed record stands at a still-staggering 134mph.

It’s almost certain Mean Mower V2 didn’t get anywhere near those speeds on the Goodwood hillclimb course, though the above video proves the modified lawnmower has a considerable turn of pace.

Meaner than ever: Honda’s new Mean Mower Mk. 2 is a 134mph+ beast
