Workers in matching grey overalls silently reach for ceiling-mounted tools as robotic machinery whizzes around the plant, components casually glide along the production line and the unmistakeable flat-six 911 powerplant receives a final inspection from a stern-looking chap with a torch.

For the record, the 345bhp 3.4-litre engine found in the most basic Carrera model is capable of propelling the machine from 0 to 62mph in 4.8 seconds, while the 394bhp 3.8-litre unit found in the Carrera S can complete that sprint in 4.5 seconds.
