Video: Mercedes sculpture above Goodwood House unveiled at opening of Festival of Speed

You build a house deep in the country miles from major roads and guess what, someone builds a flyover above it.

YOU BUILD a house deep in the country miles from major roads and guess what, someone builds a flyover above it.

Actually, the “road” that soars 26m over the top of Goodwood House, the home of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, is not a bridge but a striking sculpture celebrating 120 years of Mercedes motorsport. It was designed by the British artist Gerry Judah and unveiled at the launch of this year’s festival.

The 90m-long installation weighs 160 tonnes and features two cars spanning 80 years of Mercedes racing: a replica of the 1934 Mercedes W25 Silver Arrow that won “first time out” at the Nürburgring, and the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 W04 that Lewis Hamilton raced in 15 Grands Prix in 2013.
