Porsche driver jailed for over three years after filming himself at 180mph ... with left foot on dashboard

Speeder fled to Dubai during trial

A MOTORIST who filmed himself driving at up to 180mph has been sentenced to more than three years in prison.

According to The Times, Adam Ali, 30, was charged with dangerous driving offences in January 2017 after the Metropolitan Police discovered videos on his phone of him driving at 147mph on the A414 and 100mph on the M11, in 2015. A third video showed him driving at up to 180mph in a Porsche 911 Turbo while resting his left foot on the dashboard.

Despite being found guilty at Southwark Crown Court in October 2017, sentencing was delayed as Ali had fled to Dubai on the first day of the trial.

Though officers knew Ali was likely to still be in Dubai, Scotland Yard wasn’t able to determine his whereabouts until last September, when they discovered he had travelled to the USA under a false name. In collaboration with Dubai Police, the National Crime Agency and Interpol, the Met had Ali arrested upon his return to Dubai in November 2018, and extradited to the UK in January 2019.

As well as serving the three-year sentence for his original charges, Ali will spend an additional 10 months in jail for “his failure to surrender to the court”.

Detective Sergeant Andy Swindells of the Metropolitan Police’s Westminster Crime Squad said: “It is satisfying to know that Ali is now where he belongs and will rightly serve time in prison for his crimes.

“A lot of time and police work has gone into securing this result and I would like to thank the National Crime Agency and our international colleagues who were integral to this success.”
