Police in Arizona use mannequins to curb dangerous driving

Dummy cops stationed at crash-prone junctions

POLICE officers in Arizona employed a new tactic to cut down on dangerous driving offences: dressing up mannequins as traffic cops.

Part of a new initiative by one of the Tucson Police Department’s motorbike squads, the law enforcement lookalikes have been used to help reduce incidents at intersections known for vehicle crashes.

The troopers also use the dummies to help encourage greater road awareness from other road users.

Tucson Police Department confirmed it will redeploy its newest members at a later date, though wouldn’t specify exactly when or where they’ll be stationed.
