Formula fashion: Lewis Hamilton is the new face of Tommy Hilfiger

Star hits the track with Gigi Hadid

WHEN Lewis Hamilton isn’t busy winning four Formula One world championships, the British race ace aspires to be a soul singer and finds time to model for big-name fashion labels.

Now the Stevenage-born 33-year old is putting one foot on the catwalk, after announcing that he will be the face of Tommy Hilfiger.

The F1 driver, who is still to renew his race contract with Mercedes-AMG, has begun his partnership with the American Hilfiger label and the pair will release a new collection this Spring.

Hamilton told his fans: “I can’t wait for you to see the campaign we’ve been working hard on.”

“I believe in the power of fashion and innovation to celebrate individuality and break conventions, like Tommy Hilfiger,” added Hamilton. “Tommy’s designs inspire me to be bold in every outfit that I put together outside of the racing track, expressing my creativity and eclectic style with confidence.”

In the past, the F1 driver has shown eclectic taste when it comes to stepping out in style, attracting attention in tartan suits and trousers with one leg made from denim and the other fashioned from jogging trousers.

Hamilton’s new collection was photographed by Mikael Jansson at the Pocono Raceway, also known as the Tricky Triangle, in Pennsylvania, America.

The driver joins model Gigi Hadid as global ambassador for Tommy Hilfiger. The two drove a Mercedes-AMG GT S sports car around the Pocono Raceway – and their reactions to each other’s driving skills was captured on film, shown above.

Tommy Hilfiger founded his self-titled fashion company in 1985, and has gone on to become one of the wealthiest indivduals in fashion, after selling his label for $1.6bn in 2006.

The brand will also supply team kit to Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport.
