Bumblebee, Ecto-1, DeLorean time machine star in incredible Walmart advert

Can you name all the cars in the commercial?

EVER WONDERED what it would be like to use a famous movie car as a daily driver? The American retailer Walmart has provided a glimpse of what that would be like, in an ad that features the famous vehicles making a trip to the supermarket.

Part of a new campaign to promote the store’s pick-up service, the TV advert stars no less than 12 of the most iconic cars to grace our television and cinema screens —  ranging from Scooby-Doo’s Mystery Machine, to the Transformers robot Bumblebee in its latest guise as a Decepticon-duelling Volkswagen Beetle.

With so many potential film and TV cars to choose from, a lot of work went into selecting which ones to include.

According to Walmart’s chief marketing officer Barbara Messing: “We not only picked ‘famous cars’ from iconic movies we knew would be instantly recognisable to our customers, but we also worked with a variety of different Hollywood studios to gain access to these vehicles. This helped ensure the ‘famous cars’ looked just like what our customers knew from the films.”

Though the 90-second commercial will be the focal point of Walmart’s new advertising campaign, the film and TV cars will also feature in online and radio commercials. It’s unclear if the retailer will use the vehicles again in a future marketing campaign, though Messing did confirm new “big, bold programmes from our team” are in the works.
