Hero cop drags man from burning car

Driver crashed after 'medical episode'

A NEW JERSEY State Police Trooper was praised on Tuesday for rescuing a man from a burning car, after the victim suffered a medical episode and crashed.

Police released dash cam footage of the incident, which they said occurred on the Garden State Parkway on May 27.

The footage shows troopers responding to a car crash. As the police car pulls up, heavy smoke is billowing from the vehicle to the left of the road.

“The car’s on fire,” a voice can be heard saying. “The guy is trapped in there.”

In a Facebook post, police said Trooper Scott Behnke pulled the unconscious man from the vehicle through the passenger side window and dragged him to safety.

“The quick actions of Tpr. Behnke saved the victim’s life and helped prevent a serious tragedy,” the post reads.

The man was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center and was later released, police said.
