Police call for witnesses after West Midlands hit and run

Girl hit as car swerves on to path

POLICE have released security camera footage of the moment that a BMW swerved on to the pavement and hit a girl aged 17, as they have been unable to trace the driver.

The teenager, who was out shopping with her mother, was knocked over on Bromsgrove Street in Birmingham at the end of January.

Footage of the incident, which took place at about 6.30pm on Saturday, January 28, shows the car being driven off, leaving the girl lying seriously injured.

West Midlands police want to trace the car, which it described as a dark-coloured BMW 5 series, and are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

A West Midlands police spokesman said: “We have ruled nothing out. Whether we’re looking at a deliberate attack or someone who was drunk, it’s very difficult to say.”

PC Mark Nicholson, from the force’s traffic unit, said: “A teenager suffered serious neck and head injuries and is still in shock from what happened.

“I would urge anyone with information to call us and I want to appeal directly to the driver to do the right thing and come forward.”

Anyone with any information should call the police on 101, quoting log 1941 28/1.
