News: Tractors race to new 25mph limit

Speed the plough

Tractor speed limit

DAWDLING RURAL motorists may have to pull over for tractors rather than the other way around from next March when the speed limit for agricultural vehicles rises. New legislation will also include an increase in the weight vehicles can haul, which is intended to reduce the number of tractor trips and, when combined with the rise in speed, will mean that they are on the roads for less time.

The change will be a relief to any driver whose bank holiday outing has been delayed, or B-road shortcut blocked, by a queue of cars stretching into the distance behind a tractor. Unfortunately the new rules won’t save as much time as you might hope: the speed limit is rising from 20mph to 25mph.
