A MOTORIST who crashed into a parked Vauxhall Astra then tried to frame the innocent owner has been caught out by a neighbour’s CCTV camera.

Akbar Khan, 29, was caught on video crashing into a yellow Vauxhall Astra belonging to Jason Gray. Instead of admitting his mistakes, Khan took down Gray’s registration number, called the police and said Gray had drunkenly smashed into his car and then racially abused him.

Police arrested Gray, who was asleep during the whole incident, in the early hours at his home in Stapleford, Nottinghamshire and held him for 10 hours. Eventually he was bailed on suspicion of failing to stop, racially aggravated public disorder and drink driving.

However, CCTV footage from Gray’s neighbour emerged showing the true series of events. Khan was then arrested and pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice.
Sentenced at Nottingham crown court, he was given an eight-month jail term, suspended for two years, and ordered to pay £2,000 compensation to Mr Gray.

Richard Thatcher, defending, said: “He built a tissue of lies and it has all come crumbling down.”
