News: Gumpert Apollo tattooed for launch at Gumball Rally

We wouldn't blame this Gumpert Apollo supercar if, once or twice during the procedure, it winced.

WE WOULDN’T blame this Gumpert Apollo supercar if, once or twice during the procedure, it winced.

The German-built car, which is powered by an Audi 4.2-litre bi-turbo engine capable of launching it from 0-62mph in 3.1sec, has been tattooed in readiness for its appearance at the Gumball 3000 rally in London this weekend.

The Apollo is owned by the London Motor Museum, which claims it is one of the world’s first tattooed cars. Tattoo artist Aleksy Marcinow has designed a supernatural character inspired by Japanese art. However, rather than pricking the car’s carbon-fibre skin, he has tattooed a vinyl wrap already applied to the vehicle by the London Supercar workshop.

Marcinow said: “I’ve never tattooed a car before but it has many similarities to the human body. It had to be right first time, and I had to work with the angles and curves in the car but at least the Apollo didn’t move or scream.”

The tattooed Gumpert Apollo will be unveiled in Regent St, London on Sunday June 8 as part of the Gumball Rally.
