Apps: walking the dog

If you're a dog owner with spare time in short supply, these apps are just what you need to keep Fido fit and active.

Rover
Free, Android, Apple
Too busy for walkies? Pay someone local to take the dog out and you’ll get updates and a GPS-derived route map on completion. Or offer your services and name a price — if you pass vetting (only 20% do, says Rover).

Tailster
Free, Android, Apple
If you’d rather find a professional walker, Tailster claims to have 10,000-plus on its books. As with Rover, you get GPS updates, optional photos and insurance. You can find a dog-sitter, too, if you’re going away.

BorrowMyDoggy
Free, Apple
Thinking of getting a dog? Take one for a test-drive with this dating-style app, where you create a profile and wait to be contacted. Borrowers pay £13 a year, owners £45, but then walkies are free.
