Squirrels stash 'hundreds' of pine cones in car engine bay

It's more common than you might imagine


A MICHIGAN resident got a shock when he discovered ‘hundreds’ of pine cones under the bonnet of his car on May 11.

Just weeks after buying his Dodge Journey, car owner Kellen Moore heard some strange noises coming from the engine area on his commute to work in Gaylord.

After discovering the stash, it took Moore and coworker Gabe Awrey 45 minutes to clear the engine bay of the vehicle.

“It’s the perfect set up for a squirrel,” Awrey told a local news site. “Nice and insulated, lots of food with the pine cones. Pretty practical until your nest drives away.”

Awrey might have been less amused had he driven off only to discover a small fire burning in the engine bay, which is something that happened to another driver commenting under the Facebook post:
