Paul McCartney's classic 1967 Lamborghini 400GT could sell at auction for £500,000

Paul McCartney's classic Lamborghini failed to sell at Goodwood auction

Rock star cars prove not to be a hit

A CLASSIC Lamborghini that once belonged to Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney and valued at between £400,000 and £500,000 failed to sell at auction yesterday.

The 1967 Lamborghini 400GT 2+2 Coupé, which appeared at the Bonhams auction in West Sussex, is believed to be one of only four examples shipped to Britain and was converted by the musician from left- to right-hand drive in the late 1960s, before he sold it in 1979.

Its rarity and provenance attracted the high asking price but buyers weren’t tempted to grab this piece of motoring history at the Goodwood Members’ Meeting sale.

Two other cars previously owned by rock stars — Sir Rod Stewart’s Lamborghini Diablo and a Ferrari Dino owned by Nick Mason, the Pink Floyd drummer — also failed to change hands on the day but a Bonhams spokesperson told Driving.co.uk that there is “a bit of interest in both”, suggesting they may be able to secure buyers in the coming days.
