A RUNAWAY horse gave drivers a scare on the M62 yesterday (Thursday) after it escaped from a field and galloped along the motorway.

The incident occurred near junction 28 at Tingley. The horse ran against the traffic along the eastbound carriageway before vaulting the central carriageway and galloping westwards, once more against the traffic, for three miles in the direction of Birtsall.

West Yorkshire Police closed the affected lanes and restrained the animal before returning it to its field. There were no accidents.

It was photographed by Olivia Wynn, a passenger in a car. She said, “Not what you expect to see on the M62. It was scary to say the least.”
