CHEATING AT the theory test and getting caught has become even less sensible with the announcement that the cost of taking it is going down.

It is currently £31 but a two-stage cut will see it fall to £25 in October, and then to £23 in October 2015, a fall of 25% from its current level.

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) which administers the test, says new contract arrangements have resulted in cost savings, which it has passed on to learners.

Transport minister Stephen Hammond said: “The theory test plays a vital role in making sure new drivers know the Highway Code and the rules of the road, so it is essential that it offers the best value for money while continuing to meet rigorous standards.”

The practical test is unaffected by the changes and costs from £62.
