BERNIE ECCLESTONE, the billionaire Formula One boss currently defending himself in court against charges of bribery, has faced his toughest jury yet: the people of Syresham village in Northamptonshire.

At the village’s annual scarecrow festival, with a theme this year of ‘Heroes and Villains’, a straw-filled effigy of Ecclestone sitting in a racing car was proudly displayed. Buckingham Today gave the image the thought-provoking title, “Bernie Ecclestone – hero or villain?”.

Syresham is only two miles from Silverstone racing circuit, home of the British Grand Prix, which is perhaps why the village residents posed the question.

The F1 mogul was joined in the festival by other celebrity characters stuffed with straw including the Wombles, Snow White and Bob the Builder.
