News: Deaths on British roads fall to record low as drivers slow

Motorway deaths

ROAD DEATHS in 2013 totalled an all-time low of 1,713, the government announced last week. The figure continues a long-term trend in which the number of people killed on Britain’s roads has halved since 2000. The most recent reduction — 2% down on the previous year — was partially attributed to a reduction in drivers breaking the speed limit. Motorway deaths, however, increased by 14% to 100, the first rise since 2005.
