Provisional figures for the twelve month period which ended in September 2010 show a drop in number of road collision casualties.
Reported road casualties for the year to September 2010 were down 3%, those killed or seriously injured were down by 8%, compared with the 12-month period ending September 2009. The number of fatalities fell by 21%, to 1,900 over the same period.
The number of pedestrian, motorcycle and car user casualties reported to the police showed overall reductions of 3, 8 and 4% respectively compared with the year ending September 2009.
The number of pedestrian and motorcycle users reported killed or seriously injured both fell by 8%, whilst car user killed or seriously injured (KSI) casualties fell by 11%. However, the total number of reported pedal cycle casualties rose by 3%, and the number KSI rose by 2%.
The overall number of reported child casualties fell by 5%, with those killed or seriously injured also falling by 5% compared with the year ending September 2009.
The number of injury road accidents reported to the police fell by 3% and the number of fatal accidents by 19% compared with the 12-month period ending September 2009.
Road traffic was just 1.6% lower compared with the 12-month period ending September 2009.
