Road Environment: Getting a Grip

Category: Road Safety

We know the importance of looking after our tyres to ensure that we keep a grip on the road.

The Highway authorities that maintain our roads invest in different types of road surface to ensure that drivers have enough grip on the road where it is needed most, for instance, on approach to pedestrian crossings, bends and junctions.  Special skid resistant (high friction) surfaces are applied at such sites where there are known skidding and braking problems.

Possibly the most well known of all the high friction surfaces is "Shellgrip".
