Video: JLR teases hot new Range Rover Sport lapping the Nürburgring

Jaguar Land Rover's Special Operations Division has released a teaser video of another current project: a high-performance version of the Range Rover Sport.

JAGUAR LAND ROVER’S Special Operations Division, which recently unveiled plans to build a limited run of lightweight E-type models, has released a teaser video of another current project: a high-performance version of the Range Rover Sport.

The short film shows a camouflaged Sport tearing around the Nürburgring as a voice reminds us that “Land Rover has always had a breadth of capability on and off road. But now we’ve added more performance to the mix. A lot more.”

And how. It’s likely the model’s 5-litre supercharged V8 engine, also found in the Jaguar XKR-S and XFR-S Sportbrake, will be boosted from 510bhp to over 540bhp. This could enable the new car, likely to be called the Sport RS, to accelerate from 0-62mph in around 4.5 seconds. Naturally, the suspension and braking system would also be uprated.

The model is expected to be with dealers by the end of the year and should help establish Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Operations Division among those customers considering products from rival high-performance brands, such as BMW’s Motorsport division and Mercedes’ AMG.

With that in mind, in addition to cars old and new that it will be showing at next week’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, Jaguar will be revealing the division’s first new model. We’ll have more news about this next week.
