The Fast and the Furious series. Most decent car enthusiasts would rather hand the keys to their pride and joy over to Maureen from Driving School than sit through any one of the movies but with a sixth flick about to hit our silver screens, there’s no denying it’s a winning formula at the box office. So far the films have grossed £1bn worldwide.
The trailer for Fast and Furious 6, which aired in the US on Sunday during the Super Bowl, shows what happens when you start a franchise with the action turned up to 11 then proceed to out-explode your way through five more instalments. A Mk1 Ford Escort leaps a central reservation. A fully armed tank chases a Plymouth Road Runner Superbird, and an Alfa Romeo MiTo brings down a transporter plane with a harpoon.
The story sees ensemble cast Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez and Chris "Ludacris" Bridges returning to wreak havoc on a number of glamorous locations, including London. It’s unlikely the addition of mangled Metropolitan Police panda cars will improve the overall quality of the film but its bankability in the UK could be blown sky high.
