Jeremy Clarkson's top 10 most read car reviews of 2015

Top Year

Jeremy Clarkson's last lap of the Top Gear test track

TO SAY that 2015 has been an eventful year for our man Clarkson would be, to put it very mildly, a large understatement. But through it all, JC has kept the faith with his petrolhead audience at The Sunday Times, week in and week out bringing us his insights into the latest wheels to grace his drive.

And it’s not all supercars and luxury barges, although there have been a fair few of those – JC can get just as excited by a Ford Fiesta as he can by a supercharged Range Rover. Sometimes even more. Read on and you’ll see what we mean.

1 Corvette Z06

2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06

Have the Americans really cracked it with this insanely fast Corvette? Well, if noise is a measure, it’s a ten.

  • Published: 11 May 2015
  • Best Line: “Chevrolet tells us the Z06 sits “at the intersection of Le Mans and the autobahn”, which to me means it sits in the French village of Bar-sur-Seine”

2 Land Rover Discovery Sport

Land-Rover-Discovery-Sport

Clarkson reckons the Discovery Sport feels a great deal bigger than it is. But is it a proper successor to the solid Freelander?

  • Published: 23 February 2015
  • Best Line: “The biggest problem? It’s going to get nicked. Land Rovers and Range Rovers are popular with gangs that ship them out to Africa before you’ve even noticed they’ve gone”

3 Ford Fiesta Zetec S Red Edition

Jeremy Clarkson's five star reviews part 2: Ford Fiesta

Bentleys, Ferraris and Porsches are all fine. But if you want real perfection, you want a Ford Fiesta, reckons Clarkson.

  • Published: 02 March 2015
  • Best Line: “On the face of it, it’s a ridiculous car. It’s called Red because it’s red. There’s a black one called the Black Edition. I know. Mad.”

4 Audi TT 2.0 TFSI quattro S line

Jeremy Clarkson Audi TT review

Here is an Audi that is beautifully finished, really quite good to drive and very good looking. But there’s a little problem with stewardesses.

  • Published: 29 January 2015
  • Best Line: “Imagine Agent Provocateur putting a Y-shaped front onto its latest line of thongs and marketing them at men. You still wouldn’t, would you?”

5 Jaguar XE

Jeremy Clarkson Jaguar XE review

Yes, it has its flaws, but Clarkson reckons that this is a Jaguar that feels like a car three times as expensive and with looks to die for.

  • Published: 14 July 2015
  • Best Line: “So how’s this for a plan? Jaguar should launch a Terry-Thomas special edition with lots of wood and tweed and possibly a decanter in the centre armrest.”

6 Ford Mondeo Ecoboost 1.5 Titanium

The Clarkson review: Ford Mondeo Ecoboost

This Ford is fantastically well equipped and unbeatable value. But Clarkson wonders whether it will impress your neighbours.

  • Published: 17 March 2015
  • Best Line: “Ford of Europe spent three years trying to fix the American car. It had to make the suspension function and fit an interior trim that didn’t look like it had been made from melted-down cassette boxes”

7 Mercedes GLA 45 AMG 4Matic

The Clarkson review: Mercedes GLA 45 AMG 4MATIC

Mercedes styling has gone berserk, reckons Clarkson. And the GLA 45 AMG is a particularly bad offender.

  • Published: 09 March 2015
  • Best Line: “There are many chromed badges, plus lights that look as if they belong on top of an American police car, and the net effect is: there’s more stuff here than you would find in your granny’s sitting room”

8 Lexus NX 300H Premier

Lexus NX 300h Premier

Superbly refined, high quality cabin and really good looks, so what’s not to like? Well, to begin with there’s the name.

  • Published: 05 January 2015
  • Best Line: “Anyone who buys a hybrid for ecological reasons is telling the world that they are an idiot”

9 Volvo XC90

Jeremy Clarkson 2015 Volvo XC90 review

JC loved the old XC90 so much he ended up buying four of them. So does the new one still do it for him?

  • Published: 28 July 2015
  • Best Line: “The XC90 is festooned with systems that become hysterical if they think you are about to bump into even a rose bush”

10 Range Rover Sport SVR

Range Rover Sport SVR

There is one absolutely guaranteed way to prevent your plumber pitching up in the same car you have. Buy one he can’t afford, like this Rangie.

  • Published: 22 June 2015
  • Best Line: “I think it’s fair to say the only thing in the world that’s worse than a fake Rolex is a real one”
