Why Pass Plus?Passing your driving test and getting your own car will give you the independence you need. For a new driver, the cost of insurance can be high. This is because the statistics show that new drivers are more likely to have a crash in the first two years after passing their test. The intention of Pass Plus is to reduce the risk of you being involved in a serious crash. Not another testWith your driving test out of the way, the idea is to build on your existing driving skills and knowledge. The course can be taken at any time, but it’s mainly aimed at new drivers in the first year after passing their test. It consists of six specially designed training sessions to follow on from a successful practical driving test. These enable the new driver to gain more experience in: There is no test at the end of the course, but you will be continually assessed during the modules. How you can expect to be coached and instructedAt the beginning of your course, your ADI will give you a copy of the “Pass Plus Pupil's Guide”. This contains detailed information about all aspects of the course. Recording your ProgressYour instructor will need to complete a training report form. Reduced Insurance CostsPass Plus was designed back in 1995 with the help of motor insurers. Some of these will offer new drivers a discount for No Claims Bonus (NCB) on their comprehensive, third party fire and theft and third party policies. For each year that you do not make an insurance claim, a NCB can be earned and protected. In this way you should find that your investment in Pass Plus reduces future insurance quotes. Cost and length of the CourseThe fee for the course will vary depending on where you live and the instructor or driving school you choose. Not every ADI is registered with the DSA for this scheme, so, this will need to be checked. You can check whether an ADI is a registered Pass Plus instructor by telephoning the DSA Pass Plus Section on the number below. The DSA will need the instructor's name and ADI number to check for you. To complete the course takes a minimum of six hours training, all of which need to be taken after passing your test. If more sessions are needed for you to successfully complete the course, this will probably add to the cost. The amount you save on your insurance can be more than you pay for the course. Local Authority SponsorshipAlso, many local authorities can offer you help with Pass Plus course fees. Any driving instructor on the DSA approved register can enrol to teach Pass Plus. If your own instructor cannot help, check with your local authority or the DSA for a list of instructors in your local area. Positive Driving SkillsPass Plus gives you valuable extra experience and positive driving skills that would otherwise will take a long time to acquire. You should be a safer and better driver, so we would recommend that you do take this course. At the end of your trainingYour ADI will need to send your training reports to the DSA. You'll then be sent your Pass Plus certificate to claim your discount on your car insurance policy. You should seriously consider working towards your Advanced Driving Test.
