We will make the learning fun, combined with serious safety messages.
- Learn to Drive - Get someone you know well to recommend an instructor to you. If you need help, through our contacts network we can introduce you to a good instructor in your area. Only DSA Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs) are nominated for this service. We also expect them to have completed or at least be participating in the NVQ in Driving Instruction Award.
- Pass Plus - This short post-test training course has a particular benefit of introducing new drivers to motorway driving. Without the worry or anxiety of taking another test, it is beneficial to revisit the other skill areas covered by this course.
- Enhanced Pass Plus - From the comfort of having passed the driving test there are further training options available. One of the enhancements we can offer to the Pass Plus Course is an extension of the Bad Weather Module to include practical skid control. In the safe environment of a local authority owned airfield we can provide an introduction to safe skid control techniques using a “Skid Car”. We’ll make the learning interesting and fun, combined with serious safety messages.
- Skid Control - With every type kind of driver and vehicle licence holder in mind, we can provide practical skid control courses. In the safe environment of a local authority owned airfield, we use “Skid Car” to provide courses customised to individual need and requirements. The learning is guaranteed to be interesting and fun, as well as being combined with serious safety messages.
- Advanced Driving (for IAM and RoSPA tests) - Many drivers sport the badges of achievement and merit on their cars such as those earned by passing the Advanced Driving Tests administered by the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA). Based on your ability and experience, we can tailor courses to suit your training needs and prepare you for taking one or more of the advanced driving tests available in the UK.
- Defensive Driving - This style of driving is the one that is encouraged for new and experienced drivers alike. You may be looking for a refresher course, simply to brush up on your skills, or you wish to prepare for attendance at a Driver Improvement Scheme (DIS) event. Whatever your improvement need, we can help.
- High Performance Course (HPC) - The original HPC was set up in 1962 by the British School of Motoring Ltd, for the drivers of performance cars. The High Performance Club remains a centre for motoring excellence. We have ADI Club members who are qualified to prepare advanced drivers for the very high standards required for this membership.
- Safe And Fuel Efficient Driving (SAFED) - The one day SAFED driver development course is designed to assist businesses and organisations achieve reductions in their fuel spend, carbon emissions and collision rates. With fuel economy in mind, our training has a focus on the better use of gears, keeping the correct distances to avoid hard braking and improved anticipation and planning.
- Commentary Driving - A driver’s ability to read the road ahead and anticipate varies. A useful technique to improve and develop this is commenting aloud. Being able to give a running commentary has the benefit of improving driving skills. This skill is also useful for intending ADIs as it helps the delivery of driving instruction. We often use this technique as part of a defensive driving course.
- Occupational Road Risk - UK businesses lose, literally billions of pounds every year because of “at work” road traffic collisions. Company car drivers cover higher mileages, therefore are at a higher risk of being involved in a collision. It is therefore important that employers comply at least with the minimum legal obligation to manage Health and Safety on the road, as well as the office. We have DSA Fleet Registered ADIs available to provide practical training.
- Lorry Driving (Large Goods Vehicles) - When looking for a career choice or change of job, qualified drivers could consider driving Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV), including articulated lorries. For someone who particularly enjoys driving, having an LGV licence can be a satisfying way to earn a living. We can nominate LGV instructors and/or schools for this service. We also expect instructors to be members of the DSA LGV Register.
- Ambulance Driving (C1 Training) - Before becoming an ambulance paramedic, in addition to car licence, you will need to have a C1 category driving entitlement. This is a class of LGV driving licence; therefore you will need to pass a medical, then take a specialist theory test which includes a longer Hazard Perception element. We provide this service through an ambulance service training provider.
- Bus Driving (Passenger Carrying Vehicle) - When looking for a career choice or change of job, qualified drivers could consider bus or coach driving. For someone who particularly enjoys driving, having a PCV licence can prove to be a good move. We can nominate PCV instructors and/or schools for this service. We also expect them to have completed or at least be participating in the NVQ in Driving Instruction Award.
- Taxi Driving - Taxi licensing requirements vary according to local authority requirements. In recent years, these have become more demanding, looking for better driving standards as well as improvements to the professionalism and service provided. We can nominate taxi instructors and/or schools for this service. We also expect them to have completed or at least be participating in the NVQ in Driving Instruction Award.
- Chauffeur Driving - When looking for a career choice or change of job, qualified drivers could chauffeur driving. For someone who particularly enjoys driving this can prove to be a good move. We can nominate specialist trainers for this service.
- Emergency Response - Blue Light Training is a specialised service designed for qualified drivers of emergency response vehicles. From our association with the Awarding Body, Edexcel, we can nominate an accredited Institute of Health Care and Development (IHCD) Trainer to provide this service.
- Motorcycle Riding - Substantial changes including a recent European Directive have made the motorcycle riding test much more demanding. It is most important that new riders are fully trained by a reputable company before attempting the new two part practical test. Through our contacts network we can introduce you to a good instructor in your area.
Driving Instructor Training and Development
- Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) Training - DSA Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs) are relied upon to teach new drivers to drive safely and to prepare them for their driving tests. This involves not only giving instruction, but also monitoring the learner, the road and other vehicles very carefully. We were involved in the establishment of a DSA instructor trainers’ register and have more than twenty five years continuous experience in the ADI Training Industry. We provide all levels of ADI Training to meet individual requirements. All our Trainers are listed on the Official Register of Driving Instructor Trainers (ORDIT).
- NVQ in Driving Instruction - Participating in the NVQ Award in Driving Instruction is a great way for an ADI to begin the process of Continuing Professional Development (CPD). There are no tests involved; the process is simply one of gathering evidence of your competence. The Units cover your own driving along with different teaching techniques and structured learning. Customer service and Health and Safety are also included and you have options to specialise in Units that will help to make your business successful.
- Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for ADI - We participated in the first DSA CPD that took place at their Training Establishment at Cardington on 12 October 1999. Since then there has been a great deal of professional discussion and education research into the best way for any qualification or awards to be delivered to ADIs. While CPD is currently voluntary, the DSA are monitoring the level and take up by ADIs of the existing courses and events. Our most popular CPD is our ADI “Check Test” Course. We also have several other Technical and Business Development Courses available which we have listed here.
- Technical Development Courses:
- ADI Check Test - Instructional Core Competencies made easy. Passing this continued ability and fitness test is essential to staying on the DSA Register of Approved Driving Instructors. We aim to ensure that ADIs achieve the highest grade. Our practical courses include one to one supervision or a role play driving lesson. We can also easily tailor the training to the requirements of DSA Fleet Instructor’s Check Test.
- Mock Driving Test Course - Learner drivers must not take a Driving Test “for the experience”. Providing a “Mock Driving Test” is likely to improve the candidate’s chances of passing the real driving test. Our interactive course provides ADIs with an insight into how the driving test is conducted, assessed and marked. This knowledge can help ADIs answer the common question from learners “… will I pass?”
- Developing Technical Skills - A good instructor makes difficult things easy to learn. One size doesn’t fit all. This course investigates the teaching methods and techniques used by ADIs. We explore how these should match the individual learner driver’s needs. We also examine the professional roles and responsibilities of an ADI and the best ways to adapt to changes to the driving test. We also look at the need to updating lesson content to match various changes that are taking place.
- Developing Communication Skills - It’s not what you say; it’s the way that you say it. The role of inter-personal skills and the use of body language are examined on this course. We look the vital rapport-building skills between instructor and learner driver. We also examine the influence of personal beliefs and perceptions on the professional instruction that ADIs provide.
- Developing Presentation Skills - Stand and deliver! This course is intended for ADIs who want to become confident delivering training in the classroom. We look at the best ways to lead group discussions and manage the classroom environment. Through facilitation, the emphasis is on effective student interaction.
- Business Development Courses:
- Introduction to Better Business - Your Business Plan. Whatever your new business, it is necessary to put a plan in place so that you will know at least what your costs are going to be and what income you can expect to make. As a self-employed ADI there are many decisions to make about how manage and administer you work. This course examines the various options open to ADIs to establish a sound business foundation.
- Developing the Business - Road Safety is Your Business. Providing a structured course of learning is to create the best conditions for customers earn their driving licences. This course examines the ADIs current business operation and looks for opportunities how to maximise the earnings potential.
- Customer Care - You only get once chance to make a good first impression. This course looks at dress code and service quality. It also investigates what it is to work as a total professional and provide excellent customer care.
- Team Building - Together Everyone Achieves More (TEAM). More often than not ADIs work independently. This course looks at the responsibilities of an ADI and looks at profession ways that instructors can work together for the benefit of their businesses and road safety.
- DSA Fleet Register Accreditation - Becoming a DSA Fleet Register accredited ADI is an opportunity to diversify and grow your business. Providing training to company car drivers is different from teaching new learners. This course therefore examines how ADI skills have to be adapted to suit the needs and expectations of qualified drivers.
- Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) for LGV and PCV - Driver CPC regulation is now mandatory for PCV and HGV drivers, requiring ongoing training throughout a driver’s career to keep their skills sharp. The scheme is managed by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) and implemented through the Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training (JAUPT). Our trainers are experienced PCV and LGV drivers, who have themselves been trained to ensure that the delivery of these courses is both informative and enjoyable.
Driver Essentials
- First Aid Course - In some European countries including Germany, Austria and Hungary, learner drivers must gain first aid certificates in order to pass the theory element of the driving test. Apart from a number of theory questions in the UK Driving Test, the only other training is taken voluntarily. Through our close association with an ambulance service we are able to provide a course to suit most requirements.
