What tests do I need to pass to become an ADI?The ADI Qualifying Examination is divided into three parts. You have to pass each one separately within a two year time limit. If you don't pass within this time you need to start again. You must also agree to a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. How quickly can I take each of these tests? You should not take any test until you know what is involved and have had both sufficient preparation and training. The waiting period for tests depends on the demand in your area. The CRB check will take some time. How hard are these tests? The difficulty of these tests should not be under-estimated. You must follow the advice of your ADI Trainer as to when you should take each test. Some candidates do find the tests hard, especially Part Three (Instructional Techniques conducted using role-play) which has a low pass rate. How much does it cost to take the DSA three part ADI Qualifying Examination?
How much will the training cost? This depends on the Service Provider that you choose. These are private businesses. You should at least ensure that the provider is registered with the DSA under the ORDIT Scheme and make full enquiries as to the exact costs and what happens if you are not successful. Some Providers will charge by the hour, while others charge a block fee for the entire course, or part thereof. You need to do your own research to find out who is the best within your locality. How do I get an ADI Starter Pack?To order this information pack over the phone, you can call the DSA on 0300 123 1126. Have your credit or debit card details ready. Alternatively, you can send a cheque or postal order, made payable to the 'Driving Standards Agency', to: Official Register of Driving Instructor Training (ORDIT)For details of recommended ORDIT trainers in your area, please call:
