driving.co.uk was established in 1996 by Bill Lavender. It was one of the first UK driving websites. Bill is an Independent Road Safety Consultant covering all aspects of Driver CPC, ADI CPD and driver training across all vehicle categories.
Bill became a Driving Standards Agency (DSA) Approved Driving Instructor in 1982. As well as holding the Certificate in Education and the City & Guilds 730, he is an NVQ Internal Verifier / Assessor and he also holds full LGV, PCV and motorcycle licences. He is a DSA Grade 6 Fleet Instructor and has passed the DSA's Cardington Special Driving Test.
For 15 years, Bill worked for the British School of Motoring (BSM) in East London as their ADI Training Manager, followed by another 10 years as a Learning Resource Manger where his responsibilities included the BSM's ISO 9001 registration. For the last nine years, he has written monthly "Better Training" technical articles for adiNEWS magazine.

Bill continues to work closely with DSA former Chief Driving Examiner, Robin Cummins OBE. Robin was employed by the DSA for 28 years in a variety of driver/rider examining, training and managerial roles. Robin held the post of Chief Driving Examiner (CDE), and a member of the DSA Management Board, in the final 9 years of service, until leaving the Agency in September 2005. He was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, 2005, to mark his contribution to road safety and the DSA.
Since leaving DSA he has worked as a freelance Road Safety Consultant which has included work with the RAC and BSM. His role has been to help with advice on driving and road safety related topics, serving as spokesperson for both organisations and dealing with all aspects of the media.
