'Driving
Online' exclusively recommends driving tuition with the British
School of Motoring (BSM).
BSM is the best known driving
tuition services organisation in the United Kingdom. They
provide a comprehensive range of learning programmes, ranging
from intensive practical training for the driving test, to various
qualified driver and advanced tuition.
Every year over 160,000 new learners
of all ages enrol with some 3,100 instructors operating from more
than a hundred high street BSM Centres in cities and towns across
the UK.
Each of their learner driver
courses has a structured learning programme using a 'Track Record'.
This is the smart and proven way to learn successfully. Tuition
is customised to the individual and there's no other learner in
the car or any needless time-wasting. BSM sells itself on quality
tuition. While lesson prices do vary from region to region there
are discounts you should ask about, particularly when booking
a block of tuition.
Even if you are under 17, but can comfortably reach
the car's controls, you can begin learning to drive in one of
our In-Centre Driving Simulatiors. Phone 08457 276 276 to check
availability in your area.
Driver lessons are given in the
latest model of environmentally friendly Vauxhall Corsa or Astra.
These cars are very reliable and are particularly easy and comfortable
to drive.
All their Centres have a 'Theory
Online' facility. This includes computerised hazard perception
training. Many
Centres have a computerised driving simulator that is designed
on the cockpit of a Vauxhall Corsa. It is ideal for both drivers
who are learning from scratch and those starting a refresher course
after a long period of not driving. It provides a very safe and
controlled environment to go through the basics of car control
and gain confidence before venturing onto public roads.
Through
BSM's High Street Centres, you can apply for driving licences
and tests. They'll also be able to help you with any enquiries
you have on any aspect of driving tuition. Their
up to date approach to customers and business management is reflected
by their accreditation as 'Investors in People' (IIP).

Their Driving Instructors receive
a very high standard of in-house training (ISO 9001:2000 registered),
leading to choice of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
courses including the BTEC Advanced Award: Developing Best Practice
in Driving Instruction, as well as the National Vocational Qualification
(NVQ) in Driving Instruction.
BSM has a number of other specialist programmes
including the Schools (Ignition & Signal); Motorcycle Rider
Training and Mobility Programmes. The company also runs 'roadshows'
and has an inter-active presence at the national Motor Show.
The company's history goes back
to the earliest years of the motor car in 1910. When the founder
Stanley Roberts established a 'Motoring' school, the content
of the first driving lessons was as much about motor engineering
and mechanics as it was driving. Starting with the 1930 road safety
initiatives, including the introduction of a Highway Code and
a Ministry of Transport Driving Test, the BSM has enjoyed official
consultancy status with the government. Today,
as the largest company of its kind in the world, they continue
to actively campaign for improvements in road safety.
BSM is owned by
an Avviva company, the Norwich Union. The business is part of
the RAC Group (Royal Automobile Club), the oldest motoring organisation
in the world. The RAC are a major motoring
organisation very much dedicated to the needs of every driver.
They are best known for their emergency breakdown service and
also speak out on behalf of motorists on transport related issues.
